"Hi, did you know there are some side effects to gum disease that you might not be aware of? I'm Dr. David Wagner, Northwood Dental, Clearwater, Florida. Today, we're going to talk about some of the other side effects of gum disease. Gum disease, or periodontal disease is a separation of the gums away from the teeth allowing infection to damage the bone and suppor supporting tissues of the tooth, which can lead to tooth loss. These are the obvious side effects of gum disease; loss of teeth, discomfort in the mouth, bad breath, bleeding of the gums. These are all side effects that people are aware of. Did you know also that also, heart disease, the immune system deficiencies, pre-term low birth weight babies; many things like this are related to gum disease and need to be made aware of so that you do not let gum disease continue.
