"Hello, my name is Staff Sergeant Montgomery with the United States Marine Corps Recruiting Office here is West Valley City, Utah. Today we are talking about basic training for female applicants. Basic training for females, or boot camp, is almost exactly the same as the male, as their male counterparts. They must go through thirteen weeks. They must adhere to the same physical and mental standards, meaning their ASVAB score must be just as good as a male marine's. The only real difference in female recruit training and male recruit training is the female does what's called the 'flexed arm hang', which is hanging on a pull up bar with your chin over the bar for seventy seconds. Males do pull ups, dead hang pull ups. That is the only real difference between males and females in the training. Females still go through the Marine Corps martial arts course. They still go through the rigorous swim qualification. They still go through the Crucible. The Crucible is a fifty four hour event, with very little food, very little sleep. Hiking through the hills in California, or for females, in Paris Island, South Carolina. Again, fifty four hours with very little food, very little sleep, conquering obstacles, testing one's character in a time of very high stress. Once this is finished, you would get what's called a Warrior's Breakfast, and, your EGA, the eagle, globe and anchor. This is the first time you are ever called a United States Marine. Again, my name is Staff Sergeant Montgomery with the recruiting office in West Valley City, Utah. You can give us a call at 801-967-9815, or get on line at www.marines.com."
