Now that I have my proof and I decided what parts of my proof I like or dislike that now I can go back into my block of wood and continue to carve. Your wood will be wet with ink if that doesn't bother you and there's no problem. It's not a problem for your carbon tools to continue carbon sweat. However, if you do, you can wipe down your block of wood with a paper towel or a scrap tee shirt or any kind of cloth like that and just use it to vigorously rub over the block of wood to clean up some of the ink. Now, once I've seen curtain elements of the print that I like and dislike like for perhaps noticing this curve marks, I might want to incorporate that into my print to add a bit of atmosphere. I can continue to do that or if I decided that I dislike this element of the print, I can carve it away and that's what using this proofing process helps you do. It gives you an idea of where you are of the stage of your print making and whether or not you want to continue carving or if you want to go into a different direction. Also, if you've just begun print making and you've just begun working with the wood, it gives you a very good idea of how the block will print.
