"Hi. I'm Laura from Youngwritersworkshops.com and I'm going to talk a little bit about how much does it cost to publish a book. Generally if you're being published by a publisher it doesn't cost anything to publish a book. If you're working with an agent an agent might take a percentage of what you earn and so in that sense it costs you that percentage to work with the agent. Now self publishing does cost something. And in that situation if you choose to self publish your book you want to think carefully about how you're going to market it so that you know that you will earn back what you spent because basically you buy the books and then resell them. So you want to make sure you have a pretty good idea that you'll be able to sell enough books to at least break even on your self publishing project and that involves your thinking about you're going to market your book. You may have to put up a web site which will cost you a certain amount of money depending on what type of web site it is and how you get it put together. There's going to, you'll inflict the marketing costs yourself as opposed to a publisher who would cover all of your marketing costs. So self publishing does cost a certain amount of money. A good way to get a number for your specific situation is to go to Lulu.com and they have a calculator there where you can figure out exactly what type of book you'd like to publish, how it would be bound and how many copies, come up with a number and then you could also use that number to figure out what other costs you're going to have such as marketing and then come up with a total of how much you would spend to publish your book.
