"Hi, I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com and I'm going to talk about how to home school in California. There's a few, each state has its own specific regulations about home schooling, and in California, you actually have four options for how to become a home schooling family. First one is to make your own individual home a private school and you have a few things that you need to provide in an affidavit, which you file each year between October First and Fifteenth, with the state. A second way is to become part of a satellite program, which would be a group of home schooling families, that you become part of. The third way is have a tutoring relationship with your child and there's some specific things that you need to do to become a tutor in the state, and then the fourth option is to enroll in a public school program that provides the curriculum, and in that sense you would be considered a student at a public school. And you can find more information about all of these options, and exactly what you need to do by checking with the California Department of Education. There are other resources, also, where you could find this information on-line. Some of the things you want to do as a home schooling family is make sure that you have a social support network so that some of the social learning that your children will crave and will want, that will get a lot from, is available to you, and so you want to find some other families in your area. There's almost as surely, a yahooGroup that's already up and running for home schoolers in your area, or if not, ask around with other families that you know who are home schooling and find out how they've been able to create some affective social structures for their kids and the same for curriculum applies. You can get information from other families. Find out what they're using, also find out reviews of families all over the country and what they've really found effective. So, using different methods of creative community is one of the best approaches to home schooling, no matter where you are, so those are some ideas about how to home school in California."
