"Hi I'm Laura from Young Writers' Workshops and I'm going to talk about how to start a home school in California. There is actually four options for starting a home school in California and you can get a little bit more information about them from the California Department of Education but basically you have the option of enrolling in a private group, a satellite group of private schools that are formed already by home schooling families or becoming your own home school which comes with a set of requirements. You can also hire a tutor to home school your child and all of these options have some real specific things that you will want to research in making that decision. In any case you need to file with the state and that is between October 1st and 15th. There is an affidavit that you need to file so be aware of that date and also research a little bit to find out which is the best option for you. In any situation you will want to find out an on line or a local in person group to be a part of so that your kids will have some other kids around their same age that they can share experiences with, do field trips, have extra curricular classes or projects that they can do with a group and these groups are available in almost any area so do a little bit of research and find one that will meet your needs and that way you will have some support in your experience of home schooling in California."
