How to Grow Aster

"Hi this is Yolanda Vanveen and in this segment we're going to talk all about how to grow asters. One of my favorite cut flowers and my favorite garden plants. Now asters come in many shapes and many sizes and it's the fall and this one is done blooming. They grow very similar to chrysanthemums so you can get one start and it'll just keep multiplying and you'll get more and more starts out of it. And you can start them by seed in the spring and put them out whenever it's not freezing too hard or you can just take the divisions and start them in the spring as well. They're very hardy, even in cold climates so there's many different types of asters and they're all gorgeous. Asters like full hot sun and good drainage so never let them get too wet but water them once especially when they're in bloom. And they're a great plant for that when the blooms are fading and they don't look good, you can hack them back half the plant down and they'll grow again and a lot of times you'll get summer and then fall blooms again. They're a great garden addition."
