"When you have the beat, especially one like "four to the floor", you can leave in the same four beats for an hour or you can change it up a little bit. These changes will be sometimes called "fills". A real quick easy "fill" to do with a drum beat like the "four to the floor" is to just put on a kick every single sixteenth beat in the beat. So if I were to have the beat like this and I wanted to make a fill, I would put in the second pattern and make the fill what I want it to be, like that. So then if I were to play it, it would come out like this, it makes for good transitions and it keeps it keeps whatever dancer or listener involved in the song and this really is the first fill that someone comes up. But you can do easier stuff sometimes or harder stuff if you're so inclined. Like the off-beat beat, experimentation generally helps, you'll get pretty acquainted with it quickly."
