"The backbone of most electronic music out there are the "beats". Pretty straightforward, beats give it the beat. I mean when you were on a dance floor and you're dancing to music, you're dancing to a "beat". I really shouldn't be trying to define "beat" to you as you know what it is but you really have to think about what a beat is to get behind making one for a song. If I were to make like the usual trance raver drum and bass line. I understand that there's the easy way to do it which is put in the four beats and then the off the off the four beat bass line. Put it together and you got your; simplest thing in the world. Probably want to be a little faster for it, like a dance club, dancing around. The concept of the beat is such that you really can't just through it in there as you can plainly tell this is a very poor beat. Very simple but it's not very well mastered. Beat mastering is a real art that you have to practice with but the real basic behind it are that you have to get the different drum beats for different situations, this is your "trance beat"."
