Hip hop dancing covers a large range of styles and specific moves and techniques, but the cornerstone of the style is undoubtedly break dancing. Over time, that so-called old school way of dancing and participating in hip hop culture has evolved into many different off-shoots. Funk dancing, popping and locking, jigging, freaking, krump, and hyphy are examples of types of hip hop dance, and each style contains certain moves that distinguish it from other forms. Throughout the world, there are competitions and there is no doubt as to the influence hip hop and that style of dancing have had on the cultures it touches. Here in the United States, many people opt to take hip hop dancing lessons, and although some critics believe that teaching orchestrated steps in that fashion is adverse to the true roots of the culture and the history of the dance, many people enjoy taking the lessons and learning how to break with the best of them. Just like in many other dance styles, hip hop dancing has moves and steps that are not so much necessary to be performed by men, but they are designed in such a way that they often appeal to men and observers of dance who note just how masculine or feminine a particular move can be. In this free video series, a choreographer will teach you a number of hip hop dance moves for men, including the slide pop, the quick step, the hip roll, spin outs, and many others. Step-by-step instruction will show you how to perfect each move from start to finish, so watch and learn!
"Hi, I'm Keith Fitzpatrick and this is hip hop moves for men and we are going to go over a move called the slide pop. Alright so what we're going to do is we are going to start with our right arm or your left whichever one you want but for this purpose we will start with our right. We are going to slide this way and we are going to slide this way, then we are going to take a step with our right foot and bring both arms open and grab right up in here, real easy step. Again you are going to start here, you'll flow, flowing, take a step with your right foot and bring both arms open and grab right there at the end. Let's try going the other way also. You are going to take your left hand, come this way, slide this way, take a step with this leg, open both arms and grab right there at the end. Let's try to up the tempo. It will be here, move, move, move, and grab. Another time, to the left and go here, here, slide, grab and what you really want to do is at the end of that grab sink down, let your arms sink your body down and grab, one more time, here, here, here, slide, grab, here, here, slide, grab. There you go that's the slide pop."
