Series Summary

The various strains and versions of Middle Eastern Dance have become commonly referred to as Belly Dancing in the West, despite the multiple origins and cultural mysteries. It is generally accepted that the tribal and religious dances that we recognize as belly dancing originated in Egypt, though it's also true that Turkey and the Roma people practiced versions as well. Today, belly dancing is performed in the Western world as a form of entertainment, exercise and as a hobby. In this free video series our expert belly dancer will teach you how to do a variety of beginning and intermediate belly dancing moves. You will learn a variety of ways to use your hips, chest and arms in belly dancing, such as the figure eight move and the upper and lower undulations. You will also learn the pistol hip move, the omi move and camel traveling move. If you are interested in belly dancing, our instructor will show you a variety of ways to move your body for fun, exercise or entertainment.

Video Transcript

"Hi my name is Tara, from Bellydance by Tara. In Beginner Bellydance 3 in the series, we are going to teach you a little bit more advanced moves. Moves that are a little bit more fun to put together. Just make sure throughout the whole thing, that you are keeping yourself in correct posture. You don't want to hurt yourself or put any strain on your knees, or hurt any other part of your body. You are meant to do this, just to have fun. So make sure you have fun and just take care of yourself. If anything does hurt any time, make sure you do stop. You know your body best, so just be responsible about it. Stop if you feel anything that hurts. In this series we are going to be accenting on the hips. We're going to be teaching things like "M"s and "N"s, "O"s and "U"s". All with the hip. Also we're going to learn the figure eight with the hip, from the side. We're going to be learning some fun things, like Ah Me's. Ah me. We're also going to learn an upper undulation, and a lower..undulation. And, putting them together for a camel. One really fun move. Camel you can do many different things with. And, I hope you have fun with Bellydance 3."
