"Hi, I'm Mark Middlebrook, I'm here in the Paul Marcus Wines Cantina to talk about in this segment, Piemonte, the region in Italy and the wines that come from that region. Piemonte is in northwest Italy, right up against France, Liguria's to the south and because of its proximity to France it shares a lot culturally with France as well as with other parts of Italy. In terms of wine, there's some white wine made, Roero Arneis such as this bottling and another style called Gavi, but it's really for the reds that Italy is, that Piemonte is best known. Piemonte makes lots and lots of good everyday wine mainly from two grape varieties, Barbera and Dolcetto. This is a Barbera from Cashino Carosa. Then what Piemonte is probably best known for is its wines made from the Nebbiolo grape variety. The most famous of those is a style of wine called Barolo, named after a town and the zone around that town. There also is another nearby zone called Barbaresco and another called Roero and so on and so on. All these wines are made from Nebbiolo, which is a highly perfumed grape which makes really wonderful wines, that age well and that many people's wine including mine are really the acumen, the top wine made in Italy."
