"Move hands to steady the dog insures your dog will stay calm before you carry out the trick. Dog sit! After baiting the dog, they know I have the food. If I think the dog is going to get distracted, I'll move my hand. You will see how the dog follows the food, keeping them still until we have to move forward with the trick. So our goal of course is to take the dog out to your local park where there are more distractions, once they truly understand the trick and what is expected and until that happens practice in the back yard by baiting the dog, moving the hand and then treating when you have the dog's full attention. Another goal is that we never treat the dog until the trick is complete and finished but in the early processes it is okay by keeping the dog's attention to give them a treat after each step. The more they learn the trick and command the less we treat them."
