"Hi, my name is Anthony Baron Kirk, be talking to you today about the shoulder, it's basic movement patterns, and what causes lots of basic impingements, and pain. So, in the shoulder area we have basic rotational joint, glenohumeral joint, capable of lots of different rotational movements, external rotation, internal rotation. We think of the shoulder as a mechanism on its own, where in fact the shoulder is largely supported and stabilized, or in this case, very much not stabilized by the scapula. So, the shoulder blades, you can think of them as the second portion of the shoulder. Made up of the deltoid in three different positions, rotator cuff made up of four different muscle groups. And, based on all of these different muscles, we have lots of things to look at for impingement. Speaking about the deltoid, you have this anterior portion of the deltoid often working with the pec minor to overly rotate the shoulder forward. So, one of the mechanisms of the shoulder is forward rotation or protraction and a retractive type of movement. So, many of these gym movements associated with shoulder movement have a lot to do with much to, too much protraction, getting back into a basic retractive type pattern."
