"Hi. This is Cable, for Expert Village. In this clip, I'm going to show you a little bit about adding a little more depth, other than just the background or the foreground elements. We can add little effects; some dust and some shadows, to our elements that really, really help push the aesthetic just a little bit more. It's 2D. It's still flat. But you can still add a little more effects and interest to this moving image, rather than just having it very, very simple, like it is. For the smoke, you basically you create them separately. And again, keeping in mind to create an alpha channel when you export it, so that then you can layer these elements on top of each other. And in this case, we took just some really, really simple, quickly drawn blotches and layered them on top of and behind the foreground element, and blurred them, added some grain. And then, compositing that element in with the background and the foreground character, you can see how it really helps to add some depth to this composition, where it was really, really flat before, which is fine. But it's also nice to have a little fun with the image, too. You can also add a shadow, which is really just a faded out version of that buffalo, put right behind it. Put all those together, and you have more of a living image, which is quite different than the original paper version, which is also nice, too."
