"Now that we have our cake together and nicely shaped, we're going to frost it. We're using a base of butter cream frosting and we'll start with the sides. And, you want to start with a good healthy dollop of frosting and just put that on carefully and smoothing it back and forth a little. Now, this cake is a little bit crumby since I've cut it and it has a cut edge. So, being careful with the crumbs is going to be important. If you get any crumbs on your knife like that, just wipe it off on something and discard it. Your next dollop of frosting should be placed about halfway. Not on the cake here, but on the frosting. And, you'll always frost on top of frosting and just kind of push the frosting along the cake. Put it on rather thick and later we'll trim it off. So, put it on thick and put it on messy. And, don't worry about the mess and we'll clean that up later. Now, when you are frosting your spatula knife is going in a sort of back and forth motion pushing a little and coming back. Pushing a little and coming back. And, you're using one side of the spatula and then the other side. So, when you go back you're turning the spatula to this side and when you go forward you're turning the spatula to this edge. And, you just kind of push the frosting around the cake. And, whenever it gets even a little thin you take a little more. Now, as you noticed as I'm going around I'm building up a little ridge here and you want this. So, you leave that alone. Don't worry about it coming up high. Because, we'll be using it to frost over the top of the cake."
