Series Summary

Why design fashion for models? According to J.P. Prewitt, famous hand model of Bulova fame, models are genetically constructed to become something great: “They’re in peak physical condition. They can gain entry to the most secure places in the world. And most important of all, models don’t think for themselves. They do as their told.” It seems only natural to want the fashion you design to be hanging on perfect limbs and torsos. Because of the popularity of shows like Project Runway, and others, fashion design has become a fad readily consumed by our tweenagers and teenie-boppers. In this free video series our fashion expert will show you how to design a variety of skirts. You will get on fashion design drawings for mini skirts, pleated skirts, asymmetrical skirts and dome skirts. You will also learn how to draw flared skirts, box pleats, sarongs and bubble skirt designs. If you are interested in women's fashion and want to design skirts for yourself or your budding fashion career, let our expert show you everything you need to know about fashion design and skirts.

Video Transcript

"Mini-skirts are very very basic. There's many levels of mini though. It can be mini mini mini, or it can be mid-thigh mini, anything below mid-thigh though, you really can't call a mini-skirt. Here is one of my final designs for a collection I did a while back and there's the jacket and the belt, but this is a mini-skirt. This is one variation of the way a mini-skirt will look when it's finished. And just because it's called a mini-skirt, it doesn't mean it has to be tight. Mini denotes the length. There's mini, midi, and maxi, even though they don't really get called mini, midi, maxi anymore. That's more like a nineteen fifties and sixties version of what they are, but those are the varying levels and I will show you how to draw a mini-skirt. Very very very simple. Decide where you want your waistline to go. I prefer a lower waist. Decide how long you want it to be. And I'm going to do this one with a straight across hem. And do your curve around the hips. There you go. There's your mini-skirt."
