Series Summary

The various strains and versions of Middle Eastern Dance have become commonly referred to as Belly Dancing in the West, despite the multiple origins and cultural mysteries. It is generally accepted that the tribal and religious dances that we recognize as belly dancing originated in Egypt, though it's also true that Turkey and the Roma people practiced versions as well. Today, belly dancing is performed in the Western world as a form of entertainment, exercise and as a hobby. In this free video series, let an experienced belly dancer take you down the path of belly dancing. Watch as she takes you through each step like, spin with reaching arms, step touch, serpent arms, various slides, horizontal and vertical chest movements, the shoulder shimmy and more. Finally watch as she takes all the moves and combines them into a beautiful and exotic belly dance routine. Learning to belly dance should be easy and fun after watching this free video series.

Video Transcript

"Hello, this is Tara from Belly Dance by Tara. In this series, Beginner Belly Dance 2, I'm going to show you how to combine different moves, upper and lower body. Again in this series you do want to make sure that you are in correct posture. I will remind you throughout the series. In this series we'll show you some different things like a spin with a reach arm. We're going to show you chest slides, hip slides. We're going to show you the step-touch move. Just the basic step-touch to the front, side and back. Next thing I'm going to show you after that will be a choo choo shimmy. That's also one of the most famous shimmies that people like to learn right off the bat. This is what the choo choo would look like. So it's going to be a very fun series and at the end of the series I'm going to play two combinations together for you. We'll combine some of the moves so you can learn how to apply them to your dance and you can learn to transition with it. I hope you have fun with it and enjoy this for yourself."
