Series Summary

The various strains and versions of Middle Eastern Dance have become commonly referred to as Belly Dancing in the West, despite the multiple origins and cultural mysteries. It is generally accepted that the tribal and religious dances that we recognize as belly dancing originated in Egypt, though it's also true that Turkey and the Roma people practiced versions as well. Today, belly dancing is performed in the Western world as a form of entertainment, exercise and as a hobby. In this free video series our expert belly dancer will teach you how to do traveling belly dancing moves. You will learn a variety of ways to move around a room while belly dancing, such as the three point turn, triple step and grapevine move. You will also learn the camel step, gush move and hip thrusts. If you are interested in belly dancing, our instructor will show you a variety of ways to move your body around the room in graceful dance movements.

Video Transcript

"Hi, this is Tara from Belly Dance by Tara. This next aria's I'm going to be teaching you, traveling moves. What I mean by traveling moves is it's going to be different ways you can apply it, how to move from place to place with your dance, using them, and so it looks nice and graceful, and with intention. In this series, I'm going to show you different things, like a three point turn, which would be one, two, three, one, two, three. I'll actually be showing you the triple step, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three. Or, the grape vine, back, front, back, front together, step, step, and step together. This aria's going to be a lot of fun, because this is going to show you how you can move place to place, rather than just knowing how to do the moves in place. This move, this is also a lot of fun, if there's anything that hurts you, at any time, please stop. Don't hurt yourself; you know your body well. Just have fun with it and enjoy it. We'll have fun with these traveling moves and I look forward to showing you them."
