The next thing I want to talk to you about is safety pins, and testing your costumes. Using safety pins will help you from prevent from having an accident while you are performing. They'll save you a lot of embarrassment. Normally what I do when I have a skirt, and I have a belt that I go have on over it, I will take some safety pins, and I will apply it just at the material that's inside the belt; not all the way through to get through to the sequin. So again; I'll take the safety pin, attach it to the inside of the belt. Do this all the way around; at least four to six pins, if not more, just to get a secure grab on that belt. That way, if that belt pops at all, or any of the hardware pops, the whole thing won't come down on you, it will be attached to something else. Another thing that I do to my belts is when I put it on, I have somebody from behind come in, then I take a safety pin, and I put it actually right through both straps. I may even if my I have a criss cross back, I may even put a safety pin right over across the top just to keep that criss cross, so that way if the bra does pop while you're dancing, you have a safety pin in gear here; safety pin in gear here. After I safety pin both the top and bottom, before you go out, and after you purchase a costume you always want to shake, shimmy, shimmy, shimmy, then shake. You should do this for a few minutes; then see if anything loosens up. This way, you know if you need to fix anything, or tighten anything with some more safety pins. This will save you a lot of embarrassment later on.
