I'm going to tell you how to play an improv warm up and ice breaker called knick knack. This game is fun because you get people to do silly things but everybody's doing it together so no one feels on the spot or singled out. It's also good because there's a feeling of group camaraderie because there's a huddle up part of the game where people get to make decisions as a team so I like to use this game in an early event to get people feeling on the same team and feeling okay feeling silly in front of each other. It's called knick knack and it's a little bit like interactive rock, paper, scissors, except for instead of rock, paper, scissors, you could be a giant, you can be a wizard or you can be an elf. I told you it'd be silly. Okay the thing is one of them beats one, and one of them loses to one just like rock, paper, scissors. So here are the rules, giant beats elf. Elf beats wizard. Wizard beats giant. I'll say it again. Giant beats elf, elf beats wizard, wizard beats giant. Okay, those are the rules. So what you're going to have your group do is you explain those rules and then you're going to divide them in two. Have those two groups huddle up and come up with a group name. Oh you guys are the Hot Dogs and you guys are the Bangles, sweet, great. They're going to be in two groups, each coming up with a group name. Then, they're going to huddle up and decide whether they all want to be giants, they all want to be wizards or if they all want to be elves. They're going to have to use their psychology and read the other group to decide what they’re going to be. So this group huddles up and they decide what they're going to be. The Bangles huddle up and they decide what they're going to be and then they all line up on either side of the room. And once they're all lined up and both teams are ready to go, they do this funny walky, singy song, chanty dance thing. It goes like this. Knick Knack, Knick, Knack, Knick, Knack and at that point, the two groups are meeting in the middle of the room facing each other and that's when they both strike their poses. Uh- oh-eh and then you as the referee decide which team wins. Will it be Hot Dogs who were giants, the Bangles were elves and giant beats elf so one point for the Hot Dogs. Send them back to their corner then they huddle up and get to decide what they want to be for the second round. So it's really super silly, it's really fun. You as a referee can help make it exciting by saying oh are the Bangles going to get to score, make it like a fun sport commenter thing, another idea, version of this game is if you're outside in lots of open space and people are healthy and okay to move around, you can play it like a tag version of the game. So whichever team loses, the giants beats the elves, the elves have to turn around and run and get back to their base before the giants tag them. So that's a little game called Knick Knack. it's fun, it's silly and it's a great way to get people feeling loose and together.
