"In this clip we'll talk about some of the common symptoms that are associated with phobias. One of the first things you might ask yourself is: when I think about the specific object or thing, does it make my heart start racing? Do I start feeling like something is closing in on me? Do I get scared? Does there seem to be this overwhelming sense that something is wrong, but knowing that you're complete safe? Is the fear so irrational that it makes no sense but your whole body is telling you "run"? Because people who have phobias are overly sensitive to whatever it is that they are afraid of, one of the first things they'll try and do is get away or avoid anything that is provoking that phobia. You might start to actually panic and have a panic attack. And that would be kind of what people describe as, you know, your body starts clenching and getting really tight, the shortness of breath, your heart starts pumping. Some people have even confused it with heart attacks before. Depending on the level of your phobia, these symptoms could be severe or they could be something that you've kind of learned to deal with. If you started answering yes, oh yeah that sounds like something that happens to me, you could possibly have a phobia."
