"At this point what I am going to do is size the body of the pepper mill. I want it to be for a finished size of 2 and 1/4 quarter inches at the base of the pepper mill and approximately 2 inches at the top of the pepper mill. To do this I have made myself a little template gage out of just a little piece of scrap wood from the shop. I have used a band saw to cut it. The two dimensions that I need, the 2 and 1/4 and the 2 inches, and I use this similar to the calipers. With the parting tool the first thing I'll do is mark the 2 and 1/4 and then the 2 inches. You take the roughing gouge at this point and start taking off excess material. At this point also take a run with the skew to get a nice smooth base. What this will do is get all your excess material off the body."
