Series Summary

Vintage bicycles are different than antique and classic bikes. Vintage typically means more than thirty years old. An antique bicycle is generally going to have wooden rims and they may have a steel cladding over them. People tend to use the terms classic bicycles and vintage bicycles interchangeably. A classic bike could come from many different eras maybe only five years old, it's generally some model that had some defining factor that changed the way bicycles are looked at or there is something unique about it. In this free video series, get an introduction from a vintage bicycle expert to various vintage bikes throughout the last 50 years. Learn what makes a bicycle vintage, why people collect vintage bikes, and about the different types of bicycles. Our expert takes you through each decade from the 1940s to the 1970s. Finally, get tips on literature, head badges and vintage bicycle accessories. You'll be able to recognize vintage bikes after watching an expert explain the differences.

"So in this series we're going to talk about an introduction to vintage bicycles. You may have a bike in your garage or your basement or you may go to a yard sale or a flea market and see an old bike and say that's got to be worth something. Well maybe with this part of this series we're going to help you identify if it is worth something. If you ask people what makes a bike vintage or antique or classic you'll get a lot of different answers and we'll talk about that in this series. In addition we'll talk about a, different eras and what bikes were popular in different eras. You'll see bikes that you may have had when you were a kid, you'll see bikes you may have wished you could have had as a kid. We'll go over different things like tire sizes, frames, accessories, different ways to identify a bike to figure out what sitting in front of you. We'll also talk about riding the bikes, it is worthwhile to ride these things. They are fun and they're totally different than riding today's bike and after that we'll take a particular bike and go over different points of it and really give you some good demonstrations."
