"So what makes a bike valuable? I guess the first question is, valuable to whom? A bike that may belong to your grandfather, or grandmother, or dad or mom, or a bike you had as a kid, may be extremely valuable to you and not worth anything to anyone else, so there's that measure of the value of a bicycle, but say it's not that type of a bicycle. It has sentimental value. Say this is a bike that you have in your garage, or you picked up at a yard sale, or you found it at the dump, and you want to maybe turn it over, and try to make some money on it. You want to make sure that you can get what the bike is worth. Now, is it the style that makes a bike valuable? Maybe. Is it the age of the bike? Is an older bike always more valuable than a newer bike? Certainly not. There are certain features and certain clues, certain time periods that are more collectible than others, and then within those time periods, there are things that features on particular bikes, that make a bike more valuable. The first rule is this, a man's bike is usually more valuable than a woman's bike, and I'll go into that in a minute."
