"Okay, once you have your stitch and tear on the back, you are ready to start putting on your appliqu?. You're going to pick the bottom layer. Which in this one is going to be the tree. And actually this one does not have a middle and top, it kind of has a bottom and two top or middles however you want to look at it. What you are going to do is pick one end of it to start at. And I'm going to do a couple real short straight stitches to lock this in place, and then I'm going to switch to zigzag. And you have to have your zigzag adjusted so that there is hardly any stitch length to it. So it'll just zigzag back and forth. If you don't have a zigzag, or if you don't have a stitch length regulator, then you will need to see if you have a specialty stitch that might be able to pull it off. Just make sure you keep the very edge of the material on the very edge of this zigzag. You don't want to pull it too much because you can bust a needle, but I do tend to adjust it here and there when you need to. And you can also adjust the width of your zigzag when you get to the edges. If you want to get a pointier edge. Once in a while it'll get stuck in there and you got to hold on to the stitch and tear on the back when you pull it, so you don't just pull the front. Follow it around. And then in the corners make sure you kind of scoot up so you don't get a really fat wide tip on it. And then I'm going to lock that stitch in place by doing a straight stitch. And then I just leave it on the straight stitch and skip over to the next part of the tree. Pull a little excess. Do your locking stitch and then switch back over to your zigzag. And that's how you do the bottom layer. And don't forget to lock that bottom stitch in."
