Series Summary

A generic term for the martial art sport, “kickboxing” is practiced for fitness and as a full-contact sport. There are many different types of kick boxing, varying from country to country. Each kind involves different types of strikes, but all are based on the kicking style. Some styles involve strikes with the arms, knees and elbows. While most styles do not allow shoes to be worn by the kickboxer, the French style of kickboxing, Savate, does allow the use of shoes. The Japanese style of kickboxing (called shoot-boxing) allows throwing and submission of the opponents. Adithada, the Indian style, allows knee, elbow and forehead strikes. Learn kickboxing kicks such as the roundhouse kick in this free martial arts video featuring third-degree black belt Linda Josefsson. "Hi my name is Linda; we're going to go over some kicks today, martial arts; boxing, it's a little bit of mixed martial arts; we're starting with a stepping front kick and we're going to start with a basic front kick, and moving onto the more advanced kick. O.k. and let's get started with the first kick; first thing we're going to do, get into a staggered stance, the left leg should be a little bit on front; you have the right leg behind you about hip width apart between your legs, now for the hands; o.k. we want to protect our vital organs which is your rib cage and your face. O.k. so your elbows should stay close to you rib cage; your hands are close to your face, should have a nice solid hand position right here that way you can defend anything coming your way. O.k. now the first thing we're going to do; take the back leg, step up to the front leg. Now it's the left leg kicking that is the; the, the front leg right now; you're going to lift that knee up, thrust your hips forward and the back leans back a little bit; and push that bag and come back to the stance o.k. That's the first one; we're going to do it again, stop this bag from moving. So again place your feet on the right position; hands are up, you're going to take that step with the back leg; knee comes up on the front, push that bag and step back into your stance. Now we're going to speed it up a little bit, o.k. So again get back in your position; make sure you have a nice solid stance, do that step up and thrust that hip into the bag; come back into position. O.k. one more time; you're going to take that back leg; step it up, now really push those hips into the bag and step back. Don't move your hands; elbows stay in the whole time. O.k. one last time; put a little bit more force into it so I need a big step, o.k. back leg goes; push it and that is the stepping front kick. O.k. next kick that we're going to move onto; we're adding a hop into it so a little bit more advanced."
