"In this series about kittens with their moms, I'm just going to talk about how to care for the mother kitten so that she can care for her babies. Normal things that you might see, feeding and pre-pregnancy care as well as postpartum care, after she has her kittens. So this is a nice healthy mom here who has three and a half to four week old kittens. One of the things that we would have wanted to do before she became pregnant, was to make sure that she was treated for fleas and ear mites and also dewormed for round worms and other types of intestinal parasites. Many of these parasites and the fleas certainly can harm the kittens when their newborn and older. One of the largest causes of sickness and death in kittens is an overburden with fleas. Fleas actually will drink enough blood from a kitten to make it anemic and threaten its life. So taking care of a simple problem like fleas is very important."
