"Ace is going to help me show you today different methods of holding your cat so that you can administer medication. Medication comes in several different forms. A pill, a liquid or an injection. And part of restraint is dependent upon what sort of medication you're administering. So the easiest thing to do is to just tuck your kitty under your arm using your elbow to hold the hind end and then using your one hand to control their head. Okay? So that's one way to restrain. And now I can easily reach over and open Ace's mouth to put pill or liquid in. Notice how I kept my fingers out of the way of his teeth as he was opening his mouth and chattering. Now all the time that you're doing some kind of restraint to give medication you want to make sure not to forget to praise or pet the kitty. Because they're really not upset unless you are struggling with them. If you want to hold your cat for some kind of an injection then you want to be a little bit more secure so that you don't get injured by biting or scratching. And you can take a towel and you can wrap your cat in a towel so that his legs can't scratch you. And sometimes, Ace is a big cat so this towel isn't quite big enough, but you can even cover their head. Then you can expose the area that you need if it's an injection under the skin and you can just give the injection while the head is covered and just a piece of the skin is out."
