"The quickest way to finding a center if you don't have to get exactly the center, the dead center, is to do it by freehand method. What you're going to be doing is taking a pencil holding it against your work with a thumb and then just scribing a line. What you'll do is get yourself a small square and or some small shape and then find your approximate center. Take in this case an all and just make yourself an indentation so that you can mark the wood. The nice thing about this system is that if you have an irregular shaped item it still works the same. Run your lines in equal distance if you want to get a little closer just let the pencil run in a little bit more. And then mark your center point. Take your all, give yourself a little indentation and you're set to go."
