"At this point what we want to do is set the depth of the bowl. How deep we want to make it. In this case I'm using a drill, long drill bit that's mounted on a handle, and I'll bring it in so that, giving myself about a quarter of an inch of space. The bottom, the outside bottom being this line, and going in maybe a quarter inch, three sixteenths. Take a piece of tape and mark that point. I've reduced this, put the speed on the lathe at a much lower speed with the tool set so that the point of the drill bit is in the center. I just bring it and push the, push the drill bit in pulling it out occasionally to clear the chips, until I reach the tape. This will give me a depth, a known depth that I'm going for so that I don't go too deep and go through the bottom of the bowl."
