"Now we'll take a look at getting the base ready. We're going to size the base to fit in this scroll chuck in the expanding mode. The first thing to do is I've got the base basically flattened and we want to get a nice smooth surface, take the tool with the beveled rubbing on the side and just bring it all the way across and give a nice smooth area. I've used the scribe to size the area, the size I want, laying it in, I push it until I can just see a little bit of the mark and you can see I'm about at the right size. Don't rotate it in so that both touch because if both legs touch it's going to throw back. I get it to the proper size, take the scraper and put it a recess for the chuck. It needs to be about 1/4 of an inch deep and if you want at this point you can also decorate the bowl, the base by putting in a couple scribe marks."
