"What we'll be doing this segment is showing you how to prepare the bowl to be mounted on the lathe. First thing to do is to take the blank and mark a circular shape. You have the option of either using a regular compass or in this case, using what's called a scribe tool. It's a compass with two pointy ends on it. This is normally used in sheet metal work, but works conveniently for dark wood such as this mahogany. Where you put it in, tilt the tool down, and what you're doing is spinning, scratching the circle onto the wood. Once you have the shape cut out, you then take your band saw with the guard just up a little bit and bring the wood in and rotate around. It's not necessary to have an exact circle, and if you're into a, and if you need to have it a little bit, a specific diameter, you can go a little bit larger. Once you get the blank, bring it over to the drill press. In this case, I'm putting a quarter inch hole in about a half inch deep. And that'll be used to mount the, mount on the lathe."
