"When applying this type of handle to a cup you want to make sure the cup is cold, damp to the touch, and you can deform it slightly. And roughing up the area with the needle tool where the handle will start, creasing the surface area, and roughing up the area with the needle tool where the handle will end. Then using a little but of water on each surface and with the pulled handle and the fettling knife you'll cut it on an angle and rough up the area where the handle will join the top part of the cup and with your thumb begin attaching it.
