Series Summary

Hip-hop dancing covers a large range of styles and specific moves and techniques, but the cornerstone of the style is undoubtedly break dancing. Over time, that so-called old school way of dancing and participating in hip-hop culture has evolved into many different off-shoots. Funk dancing, popping and locking, jigging, freaking, krump, and hyphy are examples of types of hip-hop dance, and each style contains certain moves that distinguish it from other forms. Throughout the world, there are competitions and there is no doubt as to the influence hip-hop and that style of dancing have had on the cultures it touches. Here in the United States, many people opt to take hip-hop dancing lessons, and although some critics believe that teaching orchestrated steps in that fashion is adverse to the true roots of the culture and the history of the dance, many people enjoy taking the lessons and learning how to break with the best of them. For women over thirty who love to dance, there isn't any regulation on what styles or moves they're allowed to perform. In this free video series, a dance instructor will demonstrate a number of hip-hop dance moves for older women, beginning with warm-ups and moving onto actual dance steps. Some of the moves include the Scooby and Snoopy, Six Steps, the Disc, as well as other variations and combinations. With these tips and techniques, women over thirty will be well prepared to cut up the dance floor!

"In this clip we will talk about hip hop and it's history. Hip hop is not only dancing but also music, the lyrics of the music, painting, the graphics of the graffiti and it's a whole movement. And the interesting thing is that now it is very popular. But it started a long time ago and it's started with big message and a very important message of Martin Luther King against discrimination. So I think nowadays that it's so important and so popular because we have a lot of discrimination everywhere. We have discrimination not only for ethnic groups, but also from females or males, discrimination for gays or straight. So what we are trying to do is keep fighting against discrimination."
