"Achieving quality audio is just as important as having a good image for the interview. Because the interview is ultimately about the words that the person is saying. And if the words aren't clear or they're being interrupted by some external noise the job isn't getting done. And the first thing you need is good equipment, make sure that you have a quality Lavalier microphone, that your connections from the microphone up to the camera are good and that the camera is able to take in the signal. Have a person do a sound check and take a look at the levels. Some cameras have very good built-in automatic level adjusters so you don't have to be constantly righting the gain on the camera. Make sure that the microphone is close to the speakers voice box, and that it's pointed towards the person. As people move around during the interview sometimes the mike shifts too. So it's important to keep an eye on that and make sure that the mike doesn't shift during the course of the interview. You also want to make sure that you deal with any kind of external noise, keep windows shut, if you're in a location where you're hearing lots of stuff outside, you may need to change your location. It may take some extra work to do that, but this is what's going to make the difference between the professional and an amateur recording."
