"Aside from the sponge on a stick to take excess water out of the form during the throwing operation and the sponge to add water for lubrication and plasticity, the wooden trim tool we can use and, again holding it at a right angle, you can go down to the bat surface to make a nice starting point for our throwing operation, taking off that excess clay. And we can use our needle tool at some point, the top of this might become irregular and we might want to cut off a little bit. So with your left hand at the three o'clock position, holding it lightly against the cylinder wall, and your right hand pushing down with the needle tool on an angle, not like this, but like this, and just following that mark straight down until you feel it touch and lifting up carefully, we'll remove the top part of that cylinder. And then, left hand supporting it, rounding out the edge. You want to try to have rounded edges on the form, not sharp edges. The rounded edges are more stable."
