"Once the clay is centered and it should be wide enough so at the later stage you can reach in with your hands easily and in this case it is about three and a half to four inches wide and you have centered the clay and the next step is to lightly grip it and your thumbs will fall into the center and you will make a small indentation and then filling that up with water, looking directly over the piece, the thumbs go straight down just imagine that there is a shaft there and you are going right down to the bottom. You are leaving about a half inch of clay on the bottom which will be the floor of the pot. After you have done that with your thumbs you are going to be going in opposite directions at the three o'clock and the nine o'clock position and as you go across the bottom you are going to be making more of the cylinder and also you will be undercutting that a little bit, your right thumb over the three o'clock position will leave and you'll be making an undercut underneath this donut shape. So the form should look like a donut shape with an undercut and a nice right angle."
