"After the piece has been trimmed and it's still in the leather hard cold damp stage, a slip decoration can be applied. Slip is just a liquid clay and what it will do is either raise the surface of the piece and/or produce another color, on the clay itself, and depending on the glaze that you cover it with, you can get some different color effects. Applying the slip, you can brush it on or you can put it on with the applicator. This slip, or colored clay, is designed to fit this clay body, at this stage. With the wheel going, kind of slow to moderate speed, you can begin to apply the slip. With a broad brush, you can spread it out and with a medal comb, you can further scratch through the slip, enhancing the design."
