"With our smaller piece of clay, that we've wedged up and patted into a cone shape with a slightly rounded bottom, I'll wet the bottom, wet the middle of the bat and then tap it down, forcefully, into the center of the bat. Using the same technique, wetting my hands, applying pressure downward with my right hand, in towards the center with my left hand, taking my hands away slowly and then repeating the process, to center the lid. Full pressure and then take your hands away slowly. It might be necessary to repeat this process a few times, in order to get the clay centered. Next step is taking the caliper and measuring where the flange is going to be and this requires a little bit wider diameter. With that in mind, I'm wetting my hands, with my right hand pushing down, left hand pushing in but not at equal pressure, you can flatten the form out. Making a rough mark in the clay, you can see where the flange will start to form on the lines."
