"Once you've extended the curve as far as you want to go, the next step would be to use the sponge on the stick and taking excess water out of the jar. You do not want to leave water in the jar for any length of time that will cause cracking in the future. While you do need the water, to lubricate the piece and move it around, you should not let standing water sit in the jar for any length of time. Making the lid starts with measuring the inside diameter of the jar to arrive at an accurate measurement. What you can do, is use ribs to make a nice flush edge so the recessed lip will fit in correctly. Using my calipers and measuring the space. At this point, the diameter is fairly flexible, in that, you can move it out, by a little bit more pressure, with your left hand or move it in, with pressure, with your right hand pushing in, all the while, supporting that with your opposite hand. That's going to be the inside diameter and the flange will fit down in here."
