"Lots of horses are fairly tight in their hamstring area. So, what you want to do when you start working there, is gentle sort of slapping technique that's going to increase the blood flow and the circulation. Get the muscles warmed up for the scooping technique that's going to follow. So, light, moderate and heavy pressure up and down until you feel your horse relaxing. And then begin scooping the area up and down. Again, light, moderate and heavy pressure and stopping if you feel a sore area to palpate it. Probe the area. Apply some direct pressure, and then moving on. And, again, closing the area the same way that you opened it (does gentle slapping again) and with a little stroking."
