So effleurage again is a nice gentle stroke that you can use on the horse. It's not too invasive, they usually find it to be very relaxing and I'm talking about using either the flat of your hand to stroke the horse or using your fingers open like this. So if you are using the flat of your hand you can start at the horse's pole and just stroke your way back. Keep your other hand on the horse, stroke your way down the horse. Along the back, the abdomen and you can use light amounts of pressure to get the horse warmed up. And then kind of work your way back towards the front, use moderate amounts of pressure. Again working your way down the horse, from the pole all the way back, down the forelegs. I like to use the open fingered effleurage sort of combing here over the ribs. Then close my hands again to do the abdomen and either one is fine back here over the hindquarters. Work your way down the leg, keeping your non-active hand on the horse's hind leg while you are doing it. And then close by moving you back towards the horse's head.
