Series Summary

In basic terms, calligraphy is simply the art of writing. Today's society, however, sees calligraphy as more of an expression of symbols in a skilled, harmonious manner. The calligraphy alphabet comes in an endless variety because much of the text is determined by the skill and creativity of the calligrapher. Often, calligraphy is used for formal occasions, such as wedding and event invitations, logo designs and religious art, though many people enjoy writing calligraphy for fun in their daily lives. Calligraphy can be used in a variety of different formats, but once it's learned properly, the opportunities to use calligraphy are boundless. In this free video series, a calligrapher will teach you how to write italic capital letters K through Z, as well as define characteristics of these letters, such as slants. You'll learn about guidelines, the height of capital letters, how to use a pen twist stroke, and how to combine capital and lower case letters when forming words. With these tips and techniques, you'll be well on your way to expressing yourself with a unique art form.

Video Transcript

"I'll be continuing with the italic capitals. And if you haven't watched the series on the lower case, there would be some good information in that series that would help you understand a little bit how the guidelines work. If you can see this page, I'm working and placing my letters in between the guidelines here. So we've already started with some of the capitals. I'll be continuing with others. But the capitals are going to fit right into this space here. And although we don't usually do all the capitals as groups in words, it's a good idea to practice them this way because it helps you to refine the slant for the letters. So we're going to be continuing with some of the trickier letters. We've done all of these but the N so far. And they're going to fit in the space, and they're eight pen widths high. And now we'll get started."
