"In our final clip for the day, I want to review the different depths that you're going to fish for lake trout, salmon and pike. Using the sounder once again, clipping it onto the shank of the hook and dropping it down through the ice. You want to determine where the bottom is. From the bottom, a couple of feet off the bottom, you're going to be fishing for lake trout. That can be anywhere from twenty to sixty feet deep. But just a couple of feet off the bottom. For pike, you're going to be in about six to eight feet of water, and you're going to be fishing in about three to four feet deep in as much vegetation as you can possibly find. That's where the bait fish are going to be for the pike. Now for Salmon, you're going to fish anywhere between twenty and eighty feet deep of water, and they're going to be just below the ice. So in order to determine how far down you're going to put your bait, you want to use this little sounder. Since the salmon are going to be just under the ice, you're talking about maybe four to six feet below the ice surface. That's where you're going to find your salmon."
