"Let's talk about what type of bait you're going to use for salmon, lakers, and pike. On this tip up earlier we set up a minnow that is commonly referred to as perch bait, which is a much larger minnow. Quite a bit larger than a shiner. The term perch bait actually came from using small perch but this shiner is a pretty good size shiner. You want to use even larger ones for a northern pike. This would be ideal for a lake trout or a salmon depending on the depth that you set it at. It's also known in the past we were allowed to use something called emeralds, which are no longer legal in the state of Vermont. They are not an indigenous species. That's something that you want to check into in your local state regulations. Are you allowed to use non-indigenous species of bait in your pond."
