"Alright, now an appropriate size hole for a perch, you want to think about the size and the girth of the, of a perch in the area that you're fishing. Some places you may find extremely small perch. We've caught them as tiny as, as bigger, actually not quite as big as a shiner. You don't want to catch a lot of those. You can't really fillet them. And they can, you can pull those up through a needle hole. But on some of the larger perch, they can go sometimes twelve, thirteen, fourteen inches, maybe even larger, in some of the bigger lakes. And they have a girth on them of about six inches through the belly. You want to be able to get that through a hole. So we're going to clear out this perch hole. This is a four inch, pretty much average size perch hole. We're going to clear it out nice and clean so that our lines don't break. And to demonstrate the size of the hole that might be appropriate for an average size perch, I'm going to put my hand down in this ice water, which if you're from up here, up in the north, doesn't really bother most of us. We're cold blooded anyway. So we want to clean that hole out really well. Notice the size of the scoop in relation to the size of the hole. Very important to use one that is just a shade smaller than the hole. Yep, now I'm going to stick my hand down in here. A roughly, a medium size perch will have a girth of approximately the width across your knuckles. You want to be able to pull that perch up and out of a hole. So if you were to measure the width of the hole, you want to think about being able to stick your fist down in there and pull it up comfortably."
