Series Summary

Ice fishing, like other types of fishing, employs equipment such as fishing poles, fishing line, lures, and bait. However, ice fishing also requires unique gear such as ice fishing augers, and ice fishing shanties. The augers are used to drill holes in the ice in order to allow the ice fisherman to set trotlines, drop lures, hooks, or even throw spears to catch fish. Learn about drilling holes with ice augers for ice fishing in this free fishing video series featuring ice fisherman Bradley Carleton. Carleton will teach you about where to drill ice fishing holes for setting trot lines for salmon fishing and trout fishing. He will demonstrate how to use an offset ice fishing auger, how to use an inline ice fishing auger, how to use a folding auger, how to use a solid auger, how to drill ice fishing test holes with an auger, and how to clean ice fishing holes. Additionally, Carleton will give you perch ice fishing tips such as how to drill holes for perch ice fishing, and how to run perch.

Video Transcript

"Okay, so in this series we're going to be talking about augers. The different sizes of augers, different styles of augers, blade sizes, hole sizes, etc. We're also going to look at how to apply an auger blade, how to take on and off an auger blade, how to break down an offset auger, an in line auger, and all the different sizes and variations, as well as how to drill the actual hole that you're going to be using. And specifically, what kind and what size of hole you're going to be using to fish for a specific species. For instance, we have here a four inch auger, we have a six inch auger, and a seven inch auger over here. This is an in line auger. Notice that the stem is straight. This is an offset auger that bends in half. The seven inch auger is also an in line auger. Up front here you'll notice that we have the blades and a set of Allen wrenches that we're going to use to take the blades off and on and show how to keep them sharp, which is very important."
