"Many times in yoga, we use what we call props. But actually a strap is not necessarily always a prop. It helps you to open up joints a little bit deeper than you can without it. By use of a strap on the legs and on the arms, you can open up joints and, by opening up joints deeper and deeper allows fluid into the joint which offsets the onset of arthritis and the discomfort of arthritis. And, as we get into this series of using the strap on the lower body, you're going to feel yourself getting deeper and deeper into it. I'll show you where you are where you don't have to use the strap but, on some of them, you really should use the strap because it will take you a little bit deeper. Now a strap should not be spongy, it needs to be firm as the one I have in my hand. So, at home, you could use a tie, a bathrobe tie, you can use a strap that you can purchase for yoga, but not a stretchy form. You don't want one that's going to give as you try to hold that posture."
