"In this clip I'm going to talk to you about a couple of things that you can use in your woodturning to prepare your blanks for turning a bowl on the lathe. This is the band saw. If you're going to use a band saw to prepare your blanks, especially if you're going to be cutting green wood, you want a band saw that has a pretty good size motor. When this band saw was purchased it only had a half horse motor and that's where woodturning friends come in handy. It was modified significantly and I now have a two-horse motor on it, so it can power through that green wood. I also have a much larger table on the band saw with additional support leg and this is important for being able to turn round those larger logs that you might have the opportunity to cut. Another thing that comes in handy to prepare your blanks is a chainsaw. This has a fourteen-inch bar so I couldn't cut really long, really big pieces but it's really nice to turn, to cut a bowl blank and get it ready to put on the lathe. Remember you should always wear a helmet with ear protection and face protection if you're running a chainsaw."
